The Story So Far

There has been a lot of interest in the Spaces for People survey for Dumfries and Galloway, with over 1018 people visiting the site during the first week. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far! You can help more by sharing the site with friends and family – we want everyone living and working in their area to have the chance to have their say, so if you are able to assist a family member or neighbour who is not confident using digital technology, this would be a great help!

Your suggestions are a valuable step in helping to shape the Council’s response to COVID-19. While it may not be possible to implement everything that has been suggested, rest assured that the Council is considering everything that is posted. They will prioritise the main concerns and solutions to create a strategic network that will have the greatest impact on helping you to move around safely.

Key Themes from the first week

Top issues reported

• Narrow pavements and footpaths making physical distancing difficult

• Heavy traffic levels

• Vehicles travelling too fast

• Lack of cycle lanes

Top proposed solutions

• Widened pavements and footways

• Speed reduction measures

• Segregated cycle lanes (separate from motorised traffic and pedestrians)

• Add signage to remind drivers of the speed limit

The Spaces for People map will be open for comments until 21st August. We will give regular updates of additional comments, and also share how your feedback is going to be implemented by the Council. Check back every week for a news post!
